Tiff (Konnongorring) Pt. 2 Good morning from Konnongorring! Today @daveytiff (me) will be doing a #wheatbeltlocal #takeover from a prime lamb and cropping property in the heart of the central Wheatbelt. We introduced ourselves last year and had so much fun providing an insight into the life of little old us, we decided to come back! #wheatbeltlocal #takeover A photo posted by Wheatbelt Local (@wheatbeltlocal) on Jul 13, 2016 at 5:51pm PDT Takeover one- The day begins at 6:30am with a cup of tea and toast. The sheep work was conveniently planned for the school holidays (as always) and that happened to be the same time I was popping in for a catchup and #croppy from my #agadventures around #Aus . So get ready for a few sheep happy snaps and an insight into food production and our family farm. If you remember from our last takeover unfortunately (or fortunately ?) for dad his work force is all female *insert Mcleods daughters themed music here.* So he rarely gets a word in between the four of us and usually the mob of friends that come to stay! #lifeinthewheatbelt #wheatbeltlocal #familyfarm A photo posted by Wheatbelt Local (@wheatbeltlocal) on Jul 13, 2016 at 6:06pm PDT The sweet sound of lambs in the yards ??? Dads a pro drafter, he will be doing this job till the day he retires! We are drafting the mob into lambs that need to be tailed and needled, weaners and ewes. We usually have someone working the back yards keep everything happening, someone up the top of the horn keeping the ewes flowing through and dad drafting. And anyone else thrown in anywhere and a couple of dogs in the mix that think they help. The family dynamics is often tested in the sheep yards, I think it's the best form of relationship therapy as by the end of it no words are held back and your opinion of each other is definitely known… #lifeinthewheatbelt #thefamilyfarm #wheatbeltlocal #takeover A video posted by Wheatbelt Local (@wheatbeltlocal) on Jul 13, 2016 at 7:00pm PDT Time for a crop inspection – what kid doesn't like playing in crops? We've had above average rainfall compared to previous years. Plenty of feed for the stock and plenty of soil moister. Lamb prices are steady, cereal crop prices ?????? Frost is on everyone's mind, as is nitrogen top ups. The more it rains the more nitrogen the crop needs. ??? #lifeinthewheatbelt #wheatbeltlocal #takeover A photo posted by Wheatbelt Local (@wheatbeltlocal) on Jul 13, 2016 at 9:23pm PDT An ocean of sheeeeeep ??? #lifeinthewheatbelt #wheatbeltlocal #thefamilyfarm A video posted by Wheatbelt Local (@wheatbeltlocal) on Jul 13, 2016 at 11:11pm PDT One of the joys of being a country kid is the lessons you learn from a young age. Arch is eight but is lucky enough to work alongside us to directly contribute to the business. In his own eight year old way ?… Telling a time via a clock is a hard lesson for a country kid to learn. You know it's time to feed the chooks at sunset and your parents working days aren't restricted by 8 – 5. We understand at a very early age the cycle of life. You loose pets you love, you try and save animals but sometimes you can't. But you always try. You also have an appreciation for the meal on your table because you learn to understand the purpose of the animals you are raising. Australia has the best welfare standards across the world. I believe there has been issues within our industry in the past but the time for change is here. There are such valuable skills that are past down from generation to generation. My fathers passion for sustainable farming is past down in our genes as well as bad knees and skinny ankles. The love for the land in something that is engraved into you from a young age. I know I couldn't picture my life anywhere else. #thefamilyfarm #lifeinthewheatbelt #wheatbeltlocal #takeover A photo posted by Wheatbelt Local (@wheatbeltlocal) on Jul 14, 2016 at 3:03am PDT She's worth more then ten men in the yards, has eyes that are always watching and ears that will always listen. More then anything she is the most loyal mate you'd ever come across. It's hard work being a sheep dog! Introducing Ruby, dads right hand man. Archers best friend #kelpie #takeover #wheatbeltlocal #takeover A photo posted by Wheatbelt Local (@wheatbeltlocal) on Jul 14, 2016 at 7:01am PDT The lamb cradle- every friend or boy friend that's bought home gets put to work catching lambs. It's how we decided who's worth keeping ? They are uncomfortable for a few minutes while they're in there but once back on mum nothing else matters ??? I have fond memories of smoko during tailing time and eating loads of nannys choc chip cookies! #lifeinthewheatbelt A photo posted by Wheatbelt Local (@wheatbeltlocal) on Jul 14, 2016 at 7:51am PDT Three cuties hitching a ride.
